Historical development of the Internet and the World Wide Web

                                           

 September 2, 1969 – marks the birth of the internet. 

 

October 29, 1969 – message was sent from computer to computer in different locations.

1971- First email was sent over ARPANET by Ray Tomlinson

January 1, 1983 – ARPANET adopted the standard TCP/IP protocol.

March 1989 – Tim Berners Lee invented the WWW.

1992 - WWW was released by CERN

1992 - Mosaic became the first web browser.

Technology offers tremendous promise for student learning and has ignited the imagination of those who are interested in bringing about revolutionary gains in the achievement of all students. Yet the use of technology in education also raises a whole host of challenges, including those related to cost-effectiveness, teacher professional development, assessment, equity, and safety.

What is Computer Technology? 

Computer Technology ⇨ correlates with information technology and is used for the study of computers, networks, computer networks, etc. It encompasses a developing list of different software programs and devices. It includes programming, networking, database design, and development to ensure that computers work properly.

Educational Roles of a Computer

What is the role of a Computer as a Tutor?

➪ It is when used to teach users specific skills or concepts. 

➪ It is also when used to dictate what the user should do and the user in return follows as directed.

What is the role of a Computer as a Tool?

➪ It is when used to facilitate tasks and help users work efficiently.

Advantages:

1. The computer helps in the storage of information in schools and colleges.

2. Computer enhances classroom experiences by incorporating audio visual media.

3. Better presentation of information in schools and colleges is possible using computer to improve education.

4. Computer allows students to learn advanced concept easily and effectively.

5. Nowadays, quick communication is possible between parents, teachers, and students with the help of computer.

Disadvantages:

1. Some children spends more and more time in playing computer games which may affect education.

2. Sitting in front of a computer for a long time may affect the eyes and health of a student which may indirectly affect education.

3. High infrastructure cost, electricity cost and another additional cost may increase by purchasing computer.

4. Exposure to inappropriate content is possible on social sites which may have a negative impact on students as well as education.

5.With the excessive use of computer, students lacks the  verbal as well as non verbal skills which is very important for the development of social and emotional skills.
